How do I decide what schools to reach out to?
The student-athlete should first start by creating a list of what is important for them when selecting a college. This should include everything associated with; academic programs, athletic programs, facilities (academic, athletic, campus), level, conference, campus life, location, cost of attendance. Once the student-athlete has figured out what is most important, the research process can begin. Throughout the research, the student-athlete can start creating a “Target List” of colleges that would be good to reach out to. It would be good for the student-athlete to not limit themselves to one level or one region, but to keep a broad approach to the initial contact. Once the student-athlete starts going through the recruiting process, then it is good to start narrowing down that list and deciding what the top schools on that list are. Utilizing club and high school coaches, as well as a recruiting advisor to help with this process can be a valuable asset to help determine what schools should be on this Target List.
